Iroquois Amphitheater
Louisville, Kentucky
Staying true to the spirit of the historical Works Progress Administration amphitheater, this renovation, revitalization and expansion project preserved the unique architectural character of this well-loved community icon within an Olmsted park setting. This was achieved even while covering a major portion of the seating with a lodge-like roof; providing four times the conditioned space for stage production and storage; adding 50% more seats and audience amenities; and greatly improving sightlines.
The resulting 1,280-seat open-air facility includes new audience amenities; including a pre-function terrace, ticketing, concessions, public restrooms, and community meeting rooms. For the presenters, it provides state-of-the-art sound and lighting; chorus and private dressing rooms, wardrobe space, a green room, costume laundry, and an apron lift to create an orchestra pit and to provide access to below-stage set storage.
